FES in the world

FES International and in the region

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) is a German foundation whose main international objective is to enhance democracy and development worldwide, to support freedom and security, to ensure a democratic globalization process and to enhance the enlargement and deepening of the European Union.

With projects in more than 100 countries throughout the world, the FES assists the building and the consolidation of civil society and state structures to promote democracy and social justice, strong and independent labor unions, gender equality and the respect for human rights.

Through regional and country offices, the FES is able to convert these general aims into the special context of certain areas or states. This structure enables a dialogue between different actors in different sectors of the societies as well as between the countries themselves. This dialogue is of special importance for the stabilization of fragile political and social structures.

The history of the European Union as one of the most successful regional integration projects displays a wide spectrum of duties for member and neighboring states and may serve as an example for other regions. The process of the European Integration demands combined solutions in the fields of foreign and security policy as well as a common European economic and social scheme. To take part in shaping and improving the economic and political integration of Europe is one of the main objectives of the FES, especially in the former socialist countries of Eastern Europe.

The world wide network of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and its political partners offers a panel for the exchange of experiences and expertise. Our partners traditionally consist of political parties, trade unions, non-governmental organizations, scientific and political consultant agencies as well as parliaments and governmental institutions.
